It’s not just a cooking show, it’s a revolution started in the humble kitchens of home chefs who are united by their love for food and cooking, Masterchef India is a platform where many delicious dreams come true and where food is the real hero.

Syed Sadaf Hussain, 27, is a contestant in MasterChef India’s Season 5. The young and dynamic chef has worked in the social sector for a few years before quitting his job to pursue his culinary dream. A happy go-lucky person, he is determined to shine on the show. Here we talk to Sadaf about MasterChef and beyond in a small tête-à-tête.
Congratulations for being a part of MasterChef India Season 5!
How does it feel to be a part of India’s best culinary hunt?
It feels unreal, the show which has made its name around the globe and the show which I have been following since many years is the same show where I am cooking right now. Life cannot give you any better opportunity. I walk in the kitchen with my head held up high because I am serving the masters of food.

From being a part of the social sector to a budding chef, tell us a little about your affair with food?
My first love has always been food, as a kid I wanted to pursue the same but because family issues I wasn’t able to. The one thing that I like in both the worlds is that I am serving people either through the social sector work or through my food. I am making people happy and putting a smile on their face, this actually makes me happy.
The one thing that I like in both the worlds is that I am serving people either through the social sector work or through my food.
There were many challenges, I came to this kitchen and have left everything else outside, I had to quit my well paid job to pursue my passion.
Which is your favourite city in terms of its food and culture?
Delhi is my favourite city when it comes to food. You get all sorts of food, be it fancy fine dining or street food. Whether you’re looking for some Mughlai, Punjabi or Italian, you name it and you’ll find one best food joint. Delhi also has a history of food, you’ll find so many old food joints and specially in Old Delhi.

And your favourite dish?
Being a food lover, I absolutely cannot point out my one absolute favourite dish. It’s like saying out of 3 kids the first kid is my favourite. Food is something which I love and feel passionate about, and cannot pick just one. It’d be unfair.
Masterchef has three esteemed judges, which out of them is
your favourite and why?
I walk in the kitchen to impress all the judges but if I have to pick one person, I think I’d pick Chef Kunal Kapoor. He is like a big brother to me. He has always been around, he is strict but then he is super sweet and helps you in a best way possible.
